A community veteran from the Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War addressed the Alden Central School Board at the March 19 meeting on behalf of all veterans at Alden Memorial VFW, 7967.

He stated he was informed by Nancy DiLonardo, who presented the Real Property Tax Law Revisions enacted by New York State to the board at a December meeting, that 17 local districts have approved the tax cuts to veterans and he asked the Alden School Board to follow suit.

If the board decides to give veterans this tax benefit, there would be a potential tax increase for non-veteran households. A property with an assessment of $100,000 would see an increase of $15.70 annually at Level C, and an increase of $45.20 at Level E. This tax increase could be higher or lower depending on the assessed value of the property.
