The Town of Alden is having a public Hearing on Revisions to Chapter 20 of Local Law #3 on Monday, November 7th at 7:05 pm.
Restrictions will be placed on the ownership of chickens and permits will be needed
The draft of the revisions is as follows:
LOCAL LAW # 3 of 2016: Revisions to Chapter 20 Permitting Hen Chickens with Certain Restrictions;
The purpose of this amendment is to permit, upon the issuance of a special permit, and subject to renewal annually, the keeping of up to six hen chickens in an R1 and R2 district;
Alden Town Code Section 20-12C and 20-13C shall be amended to add:
12.12.C (4) The raising or keeping of up to six (6) hen chickens only (no other fowl), may be conducted as an accessory use upon the issuance of a special permit by the Town Board on the same premises associated with an owner occupied single family or two family detached dwelling as the principal use, subject to the following procedures and conditions:
1. Applications for the special permit will be made to the Code Enforcement Officer.
Once filed, the premises will be inspected by the CEO and a building plan for the coop and enclosure submitted for review.
