A Public Hearing is being held by the Alden Town Board on Monday, June 3rd at 7:05 pm at the Town Hall in regards to issuing a Special Use Permit to allow a rodeo to take place on the back property of Alden Bowling Center on Sandridge Road.

An article published in the May 30th issue stated that residents and businesses within 1500 ft. of the event would be informed of the hearing. There is some confusion over the actual distance requiring notification. When the Rodeo idea was presented to the Board, members were uncertain of who would need to be notified of the public hearing for a Special Use Permit. At that time, 1500 ft. was mentioned, along with 300 ft. and 500 ft. Residents who fall within the distance required should receive notice in writing from the Town. If you do not receive notice then you do not fall within the distance requiring notice.

All town residents, despite their distance from the proposed event, have the opportunity to attend the hearing and have a chance to be heard.

According to Cross Over the Line Rodeo Company’s website, Rodeos are planned in Alden beginning on Saturday, June 15 at 5 pm. The schedule is June 22, June 29, July 6, July 14, July 20, August 3, August 10, August 17, and August 24th. All events are to start at 5 pm.

A Special Use Permit is usually issued for one year.
