Snow, rain, or shine, Alden’s 21st “Christmas in the Park” celebration will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 – capped off by lighting of multiple Christmas trees at 5 pm. Most activities are planned for all afternoon, throughout the Village. The annual event is sponsored by the Alden Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Alden Recreation Department, along with a host of local businesses and community organizations. Everyone throughout the region is invited. Indoors or out, there’s something to do and see for all ages–and it’s all free.

HOLIDAY MARKETPLACE

A Holiday Marketplace featuring gourmet foods, wine and crafts will occupy the American Legion Hall at 13143 Broadway (right across from the Bandstand) from noon– 4:30. Nearly 20 unique vendors can satisfy every corner of your holiday gift lists–as well as your appetite.

The 10th Annual Commemorative Ornament, featuring St. John the Baptist RC Church, will be on sale.

FAMILY & KIDS ACTION

There will be strolling carolers; pony rides, a petting zoo, and horse-drawn wagon rides (sponsored by Gillen’s Expert Auto). through the Town Park on Main Street; a Living Nativity at ACTS theater, and much more. The Alden Historical Society (on Broadway near Alden Pharmacy) will be open from 11–4 and hold a bake sale. The Library will offer story-telling from 1–2. Many businesses will host open houses from 1:00–5:00 pm, with refreshments and special offers. Santa will be present for pictures with the kids from 12:30 – 3 near the Bandstand. And Mascots will pose from 2-3. Many activities including face painting for the youngsters will fill the Community Center and seasonal kid’s games will provide fun in the Town Park on West Main St.. Pony rides, a petting zoo and horse drawn wagon rides also will be offered.

Throughout the afternoon, the Chamber of Commerce will sell hot dogs, Kiwanis will have kettle corn, and the Lions Club and Tops Market will offer hot chocolate and cookies in the center of the Village. Judging of Christmas Trees decorated by various organizations begins at 5:00 around the Bandstand, along with caroling by the AHS Choral Group and the lighting of the holiday decorations in the triangle Firemens’ Park.

Carbones Pizzeria, on Broadway, will offer a free slice of pizza from 2-4 pm.
