Andrew’s Army and JD Auction services teamed up to organize an auction at Alden High School on Oct. 18 to benefit Unyts/Donate Life. Auctioneer and Alden graduate, Julie Dulski originated the idea last June and donated her services. Her goal was to raise $10, 000 for Andrew’s Army and she did it!

The items auctioned off were all donated by local merchants, friends, family and strangers in the community who had heard about Andrew’s Army. JD Auction Services played a huge role in advertising; and transporting, generating and storing donated items. Alden High School’s Donate Life Club members volunteered their time to: donate blood, serve refreshments, run the “kids zone”, sell ice cream (donated by the Pink Cow) and assist with the loading of items into people’s cars. Student Delaney Kepner made her first appearance as a guest auctioneer.

The crowd at the auction itself was small, but the individual’s hearts were large. Once the donations, auction profits, generator raffle and art show revenue were all combined, there was a donation made to Unyts in the amount of $10,204. This additional donation brings Andrew’s Army’s total donations to Unyts/Donate Life over $79,000. Blood donation totals are over 1,300.

Unyts is an organization that promotes eye, organ, tissue and blood donation. Their headquarters is at 110 Broadway in Buffalo, NY. All blood donations made through Unyts stay in our local area and benefit patients in our local hospitals. One blood donation has the potential to save three lives.
