The Alden Central School Board heard a preliminary budget presentation from Business Manager Paul Karpik at the Feb. 4 board meeting.

Karpik noted to board members that in the last five years, the district has seen a five-and-a-half percent decrease in student population and projecting forward for the next five years he expects it to keep decreasing.

Within the expenditures he cautioned that there are several unknowns including the cost for health insurance premiums, prices for BOCES services, changes to the educational program, class sizes and course selections, employee retirements and additional maintenance and equipment requests.
