Whistle Stop Restaurant –

Restaurant, Bar, Banquets, Complete On-Site and Off-Site Event Catering

by Kathy Luppi

The Whistle Stop restaurant’s three-story building in the Village of Alden on Exchange St., built next to the Erie Railroad tracks and a former railroad depot, operated as a hotel from 1909 through the 1950s. The hotel repeatedly changed owners as well as names, switching from Swyers’ Hotel to Kuhn’s Hotel to Depot Hotel to John’s Hotel and then to the Whistle Stop Inn. Oliver and Ona Becker purchased the establishment in 1963 and ran it as a dinner and bar business
