On Saturday, January 14th, fifty seven families came to the Pet Food Cupboard at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church seeking assistance in feeding and caring for their cats and dogs.
Dry and wet food was provided for 62 dogs and for 226 cats, in addition fifty-five 26 lb boxes of kitty litter, as well as pet toys and other miscellaneous items.
Each month 55-65 families come to the Pet Food Cupboard. The same families do not show up each month and over a two month period 83 different families have been served. Volunteers from the Church congregation, students from Alden Central Schools, and the community assist clients in the distribution of pet food and in carrying pet food and litter to their cars. This month we were greatly assisted by members of the Cleveland Hill Fire Dept. Explorers and their leaders.
The Pet Food Cupboard continues to receive donations from animal rescue and sheltering centers, caring individuals in the Alden-Marilla community, some business’s, family, friends, anonymously, Mutt Cuts. People from Lockport, Attica, Lancaster, and even Buffalo have also given donations.
Families coming to the pantry are from the Alden-Marilla area, Cowlesville, Bennington, Darien, Akron, Lancaster, and Lockport. The Cupboard is open the second Saturday of each month from 11 to noon and is located in the basement of St. Aidan’s Church. Anyone needing help is invited and no one will be refused.
